Continue in Prayer - January 2009

It is interesting to remark how large a portion of Sacred Writ is occupied with the subject of prayer, either in furnishing examples, enforcing precepts, or pronouncing promises. We scarcely open the Bible before we read, "Then began men to call upon the name of the Lord;" and just as we are about to close the volume, the "Amen" of an earnest supplication meets our ear. Instances are plentiful. Here we find a wrestling Jacob-there a Daniel who prayed three times a day-and a David who with all his heart called upon his God. On the mountain we see Elias; in the dungeon Paul and Silas. We have multitudes of commands, and myriads of promises. What does this teach us, but the sacred importance and necessity of prayer? We may be certain that whatever God has made prominent in his Word, he intended to be conspicuous in our lives. If he has said much about prayer, it is because he knows we have much need of it. So deep are our necessities, that until we are in heaven we must not cease to pray. Dost thou want nothing? Then, I fear thou dost not know thy poverty. Hast thou no mercy to ask of God? Then, may the Lord's mercy show thee thy misery! A prayerless soul is a Christless soul. Prayer is the lisping of the believing infant, the shout of the fighting believer, the requiem of the dying saint falling asleep in Jesus. It is the breath, the watchword, the comfort, the strength, the honour of a Christian. If thou be a child of God, thou wilt seek thy Father's face, and live in thy Father's love. Pray that this year thou mayst be holy, humble, zealous, and patient; have closer communion with Christ, and enter oftener into the banqueting-house of his love. Pray that thou mayst be an example and a blessing unto others, and that thou mayst live more to the glory of thy Master.

The motto for this year must be, "Continue in prayer."

This is quite a crazy time for my family and me.
My Dad 's elder brother 's widow
80+ year old Aunt Virginia was in pain since
Dec 21st.Mama and I are her only relatives. (She does not have children
and her brother 's children don 't care.)
We got a doctor to examine her and it was discovered that she has
fractured her hip bone and needs to have a steel
rod inserted through surgery.
On Dec 31st we got her admitted in the hospital.
Jan 1st was a crazy day as we had to arrange for a
blood donor. My Pastor and his wife were a tremendous help. Around midnight he found a donor.
The surgery was scheduled for Jan 2nd at 9 am.
We all assembled in the hospital ,
the nurses prepared auntie.
Prayers were said and we waited for them to wheel
her into the OT.
After a long wait (10.30am)
they told us that the operation
has been postponed till Jan 3rd. as
one of the surgeons on the team took off on an emergency leave.
So we have to go through the whole process this morning which is very draining emotionally and physically.

Apart from all this I 've been
trying to juggle other activities like
a birthday celebration
a wedding reception
a pre-wedding ceremony (today Jan 3)
a cousin 's wedding (Jan 5th)
Hospitality
guests and visitors
Taking care of Mom 's needs and
house chores.
Sonia is a great help.

PRAYER REQUEST
Please pray for Aunt Virginia.
The doctors have cautioned us that the surgery
is risky due to her age is weak physical condition.
We are very anxious and worried because of that.

Please give strength to Amrita as she waits on her auntie and please let the operation be a success and please relieve the pain, Lord
Bless Donna and give her the strength to look over and tend to this prayer blog.

ROLLER COASTER PRAYER REQUEST

I haven't shared a whole lot on my health, dealing with a chronic illness is the pits I tell ya! My platelet count has dropped VERY low, 12K to be exact and my Oncologist was even using the "T" word: transfusion. For the record, I LOATHE getting transfusions!!! I haven't had one since having my spleen removed nearly 4years ago. Anyway, I have had to up my steroids to 600 mg a day (they had been 200mg daily). I feel especially crummy when they are upped but I am scheduled for some minor Orthoscopic knee surgery next Thursday and he feels it's necessary to take me up that high so I can hopefully have a better platelet count going into this procedure. I could use some prayers that my count will be high enough so I can have this done as well as my mental outlook is kind of going south over this whole thing. I am almost 5 years into this auto-immune disorder with no end in sight and it gets to me from time to time.
Thanks!

Hi Donna,

Please pray for me...I've been sick with a cold/flu since the weekend and while I am starting to feel better, I still feel yucky (if that makes any sense!).

I'm tired of feeling this way...I just want to feel better again, more like myself! I would appreciate the prayers!

Thanks,

Julie

Precious Heavenly Father,
So many are sick and hurting. There are emotional, spiritual and physical needs out there and at this time I lift these needs to your throne. Your word says you will not leave us or forsake us and we take comfort in your word. You know our every need before we speak them. We pray for your peace that passes all understanding.
I thank you now for the healings that are taking place and give you all the praise and glory!
In Jesus name, Amen.

Trish said...

Dear Lord...I pray for our sister Julie. Meet her needs, strengthen her body, mind and spirit. I know that you are touching her right now, for I ask these things in Your Precious Name.
Amen

Lord...now I come before you on behalf of Connie. Continue to do a work in her body, raise these blood counts and let her be more than ready for her surgery.
You, Lord are the Great Physician.
Touch our sisters.
Thank You Lord.
Amen

Mrs. Mac said...

Dear Lord, please bring your healing touch to our sister Julie. Help her to regain her health from having the flu/cold she is struggling with. Give her a peaceful rest to get her strength back.

And I want to lift up my son, Sean Patrick. Lord you know he is trying to give up smoking as he departs the military soon. Please give him your strength to fight this addictive habit and with your help overcome it successfully. Please help remove the urge to smoke from his mind and to be repulsed by the smell of smoke when he is around other smokers. Please also help prepare him for life apart of the military service. This is a rough time to find work, but I ask that you would direct his course as he begins his new journey in life. In Jesus name I pray.

Amen

Please pray for my brother-in-law Dave? (Tomer's oldest brother) He has suffered a Stroke. He is in ICU, but there's no paralysis. He has slurred speech, blurry vision and can only move his eyes up & down, not side to side. He is a minister of the Gospel and a BOLD witness. Pray God will use this for His Glory?

Terry said...

Trish.... I will be praying for Dave...Love Terry

Could the sisters please pray for me?
Tomorrow, Betty is taking me to McMaster Hospital in Hamilton where the specialist will be looking at me to see if I really have myontonis.
The roads will be hazardous. Could you pray for our safety.?
We will be leaving at 8:30 am.
I will be praying for Dave and Connie and little Nate and the others on our prayer list.
A little more than a month and Patrick will be home!.......Love Terry

Mrs. Mac said...

Thank you Lord Jesus for allowing this group of believers to pray for the needs of our loved ones and friends. May your hands be upon Dave as he's in ICU and use him once again as a mighty witness for your kingdom. Please allow his body to heal from the stroke. Please be with his loved ones and bring them your peace. Amen

Dear Lord, I lift up Terry to you and ask that you would give Betty and her traveling mercies tomorrow morning as they head out to the hospital. Please guide them safely over the icy roads. May the doctors learn what is ailing Terry and offer some type of help. You are in control of Terry's health. Use your daughter as a witness for your Kingdom as she is being treated. Amen

Lord, I once again lift Connie up to you for prayer. Please give her body the opportunity to be strong and healthy enough for her upcoming knee surgery. You hold her life in your hand. Please give her comfort and healing ... and allow the doctors the best opportunity to treat her condition. Amen

Thank you Lord for the approaching departure date for Sean Patrick from the Army. Help him to get readjusted to civilian life. Help give him confidence to seek work and school/training. Thank you for guiding his military career and for his service to our country. Amen

Let us continue to pray for Terry as she waits to hear on a doctor's appointment....let her spirits be lifted knowing our Lord and Savior holds her lovingly in the palm of hand.....

and for those of you following the "prayers for little Nate"...this update was on facebook this evening and I wanted to pass it along....please keep this little one in your prayers...

Wes just provided this update on Nate's status and wanted to pass along to everyone. Thanks for your continued prayers.

"Nate is doing a little better each day. He has now smiled, moved his limbs(gross motor), picked his nose (fine motor skill), picked out colors and numbers on a game with his hand (cognitive awareness), laughed, swallowed, and tracks good with his eyes. The doctors feel good about his progress and are discussing putting him on a more aggressive physical and speech therapy regimen. Although he still has not spoken, it appears that he has been trying. The chemo has been going good lately, and Dr. Bowers believes good signs on the outside mean good signs on the inside. The prayers that everyone is sending up are definitely working for Nate as we knew they would. All we ask from you is prayer and to use Nate as a way to spread the awesome things that God can do with others. Our desire is that God receives glory everywhere that each one of you works, plays, goes to school, and lives. God is so awesome and we are feeling so close to HIM right now. Please do not take anything for granted, every good thing that you have in your life was given to you by God. HE loves you and wants to hear your struggles and your victories alike, never forget that HE is always with you and desires to be close to you…so if the economy, sickness, marital issues, bills, depression, or any other worry has got you down, call out to Jesus and HE will give you peace. It may not come right away, but if you keep calling you will eventually find yourself living life with a lighter burden and a new perspective that allows such an awesome inner peace. Read the Psalms before you go to bed at night, sweet dreams and God bless."

Father God....as I read through the requests and comments left here, I thank you for the awesome privilege to come before you and pray for those you created and love....heal them Lord, comfort and strengthen them, make your presence known to each and every one....

In Jesus name I pray

Amen

Update
I heard from the doctor's office today and after all the blood tests that they took last week, they have found that I am very low on Vit D. So I have to take 2000[two 1000 pills] a day.
I also phoned my own doctor and told him that I am having too many side affects from flomax, my osteoporosis pills. I didn't want to complain before but the side affects are not good. He is going to see what else I can take.
I have not heard from the heart doctor yet.Thank you muchly for your prayers!

"Lord I pray for David Fisher as he goes in for a colonoscopy tomorrow. I think that he is a little afraid so I pray that Thou wilt let him know that Thou art near.
I continue to pray for Nate and Connie Lord, and Felisol has an unsaved friend who has broken her hip. I pray if it be Thy will that Thou wilt heal her body with the doctors help and I pray and I know that it is Thy will, that Thou wilt save her soul.
Praying still for Patrick that he will use Thy power for him to stop smoking and I pray for his safe return home.
Thank Thee Lord for this great privilege that Thou hast given us to pray!...in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ ...Amen"

Bless you Donna for this quiet praying place..
